Eliminating Network Blind Spots to Reduce Plant Downtime

March 6, 2026

The Challenge

In a complex industrial manufacturing environment, the operational network had grown organically over time with no formal documentation or asset visibility. There was no current network architecture, no interconnect or wiring diagrams, and no centralized asset inventory.

When network issues occurred, operations teams were forced into reactive troubleshooting. Identifying the root cause often required 36–72 hours, extending plant outages and increasing both production losses and operational risk.
The Solution

The Solution

Spartan Controls’ Industrial Networking team was deployed onsite to establish full visibility into the operational network. The engagement focused on both technical discovery and long‑term sustainment.

Key activities included:
  • Identifying and inventorying all connected OT assets across the plant network
  • Developing a complete documentation package, including current‑state network architecture, interconnect, and wiring diagrams
  • Deploying an automated asset discovery platform to maintain a continuously updated asset inventory
This approach ensured the network was not only documented once, but remained accurate over time.

The Value

With complete network visibility and up‑to‑date documentation in place, network issues can now be identified proactively rather than reactively. When incidents do occur, mean time to resolution has been dramatically reduced, minimizing the operational impact of network disruptions.

For industrial manufacturing operations, reduced downtime translates directly into improved reliability, safer operations, and increased profitability.
