ConocoPhillips Canada wins Emerald Award for Implementing and Sharing Energy Efficiency Innovation

May 26, 2016

CALGARY, ALBERTA - ConocoPhillips Canada took home the Emerald Award for Implementing and Sharing Energy Efficiency Innovation in the Large Business category on June 8, 2016 at the 25th annual Emerald Awards.

Emerald Awards recognize and celebrate outstanding environmental achievements of large and small businesses, individuals, not-for-profit associations, community groups, youth, and governments across all sectors in Alberta.

"Congratulations to ConocoPhillips on this prestigious award,” said Cam Dowler, Technical Specialist at Spartan Controls. “We have been proud to work together with ConocoPhillips Canada to help them achieve their emission reduction and energy efficiency goals.”

The ConocoPhillips Canada Energy Efficiency Program was established in 2008 to implement energy efficient technology at a large number of well sites and facilities spanning from northeast British Columbia, to southeast Alberta. The programs goal is to make a significant reduction in the company’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions footprint and improve energy efficiency.

With the assistance of a grant from the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC) in 2011, this program has now implemented over 1,870 such projects, for a cumulative emissions reduction of over 470,000 tonnes of CO2e per year – the equivalent of taking approximately 98,000 cars off the road.

These projects included a number of Spartan technologies, including high-to-low bleed conversions, SlipStream, dehydration optimization, and REMVue.

The REMVue® AFR is an engine management system used to control natural gas engines that compress natural gas from well-sites to processing plants. The system enables these engines to run more efficiently and reliably, while lowering the emissions created in the process.

SlipStream® is designed to capture vented hydrocarbons like methane, and utilize them as fuel, either for a natural gas engine or process burner. Not only does this technology significantly reduce greenhouse gases, it reduces fuel costs for the engine or burner by up to 50 per cent.

Congratulations again to ConocoPhillips Canada.
