Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS)

CCUS is considered one of the essential environmental technologies in Oil Sands and can also be applied across other energy industries. The application consists of carbon dioxide captured from fuel gas (or other industrial processes), CO2 transportation via pipeline or ships, and the application of CO2 to develop products, industrial processes, and services. The CO2 can also be permanently stored underground to reduce GHG emissions. CCUS is a way of generating “negative emissions” when CO2 is directly extracted from the atmosphere or through bio-based processes.

Process Improvements

Advanced Process Control (APC) solutions improve current operations and process efficiencies by pushing and holding production facilities at their most profitable operating limits, while reducing carbon footprint operations. APC can be applied to process units such as Refiners, Dryers, Steam Headers, and Tailings Solvent Recovery Units (TSRUs).

Electrification & Fuel Substitution

The electrification of pneumatic control loops and replacing natural gas with compressed air, biofuels and hydraulic solutions, contributes to the overall efforts of eliminating GHG emissions. Parallel to fuel substitution, power generation is more environmentally friendly with clean energy sources such as solar, wind and hydroelectricity. Spartan's applications for remote power including but not limited to, cathodic protection, SCADA & Instrumentation, chemical injection pumps, air compressors, valve actuation, remote light towers, surveillance, and radio transmitters.
