Reduce Methane While Improving Reliability

The Challenge

Pneumatic controllers play a critical role in controlling process temperatures, pressures, liquid levels, and other operating parameters. Many of these devices use natural gas as their operating medium, resulting in methane emissions during normal operation. In addition, poorly maintained controllers can continuously vent fuel gas, increasing emissions and creating challenges for organizations working to meet environmental and regulatory requirements.

 

The Solution

The Solution

High-bleed pneumatic controllers were converted to low-bleed controllers to significantly reduce vented gas emissions. Instrument air retrofits were also implemented to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from active dynamic control loops while reducing overall on-site air volume demand. This approach enabled environmental improvements without compromising process control performance.

The Value

The solution eliminated methane emissions associated with pneumatic controllers while improving fuel gas efficiency and reducing operational costs. By lowering greenhouse gas emissions and supporting environmental performance objectives, the upgrades also helped producers meet regulatory compliance requirements while delivering a measurable return on investment.
