Spartan Controls Announces Ten Year Contribution Agreement with the British Columbia Institute of Technology

October 10, 2016

CALGARY, ALBERTA – We are pleased to announce Spartan Controls Ltd. and BCIT have agreed to a $2.5M 10-year contribution agreement. BCIT, a leader in education, and one of British Columbia’s largest post-secondary institutes, has a history of excellence in applied education and research, industry partnerships, and economic impact.

“It’s so important that industry, educators, and government collaborate to deliver relevant training for students, innovative learning environments, and provide the skilled resources we need for our economy and society to prosper” said Mike Begin, CEO of Spartan Controls. “We are pleased to step up our contributions in such a substantial way with a leading educator like BCIT and be recognized in this manner.”

This contribution agreement includes a substantial increased donation of world class technology, technical support, collaboration and awards funding to the BCIT School of Energy. In recognition of Spartan’s contribution, BCIT will name a primary training center “The Spartan Controls Center for Energy Education and Research”. Formerly known as the Centre for Energy Education and Research (CEER), the facility is key to energy education and research at BCIT and houses the School of Energy’s boiler, co-generation and industrial instrumentation. Renaming the multi-million-dollar facility recognizes the longstanding and continuing relationship between BCIT and Spartan Controls.

“As one of BCIT’s key industry partners, Spartan Controls has accelerated our efforts to provide students with leading-edge, applied learning opportunities. This new name symbolizes the significant connection between BCIT and Spartan Controls—and it speaks to the great things we’ll continue to accomplish together in the future,” says BCIT President, Kathy Kinloch.

This recent contribution is part of Spartan’s ongoing commitment to supporting technical institutes and universities across Western Canada. Over the years, contribution agreements with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), and Saskatchewan Polytechnic have enabled students to gain hands-on experience and drive higher levels of industry reliability and performance.
