A premier client providing integrated transport, terminal and marketing services for the energy industry, contracted STERLING Valve Automation to provide a robust solution for a large tank farm expansion in Alberta.

Working with the client’s engineering contractor, the priority was to provide a reliable solution with the highest possible up-time rating for ongoing operations.  The project requirements of integrating fifty-five isolation valves on to one MODBUS digital control network monitoring system supplied with electric actuation was well within STERLING Valve Automation’s capabilities.

The EIM Series 2000 M2CP electric actuators with Controlinc 320B MODBUS digital control modules were selected to automate the isolation valves.  Communications were provided over a two-wire, distributed network using RS485 protocol to a central network master station with built-in redundancy as back up.  Using the well-established EIM actuator in conjunction with EIM’s proven Controlinc Network, installed in a redundant extended ring topology provided the robust solution required.

STERLING Valve Automation provided:

  • The needed equipment
  • Valve and actuator mounting
  • On-site services
  • Experienced technicians during start-up and commissioning

With the system and equipment functioning, preparations are being made to add more motor operated valves (MOVs).

The past performance and new network additions clearly display the confidence of the client in their selection of STERLING Valve Automation & EIM Actuators and Controls.
