Problem:  Standard P/V vents with weight or spring loaded pallets can become frozen or glued shut in cold weather or polymerizing vapor service. Similarly, end-of-line static fl ame arresters (whether stand-alone or installed in conjunction with a P/V vent) can become clogged with ice or polymerized product vapors in cold weather or polymerizing vapor service. Sticking pallets and / or clogged arrester are not only a maintenance burden but also can interfere with tank breathing, thereby jeopardizing the tank or vessel.

Solution: The PROTEGO Model UB/SF has been used for 35+ years in applications involving freezing and sticky vapors. The liquid-loaded fl exible diaphragm is immune to becoming frozen or glued shut (no heat jacket required). Also, the UB/SF is approved for use as a dynamic flame arrester (i.e. no static fi lter element required) if certain operational conditions are met.

The UB/SF is approved as an end-of-line flame arrester with NEC Group C and D vapors. The approval applies even when the static filter element is removed as long as the tank is N2 blanketed OR if a set pressure of +6“ w.c. (+15 mbar) or more is used.
