Upgraders and Refineries Fire and Gas Detection

Refineries and upgraders represent special hazards in oil and gas production because they are large, complex and have many toxic and combustible hazards. Equipment needs to be rugged, highly reliable and require little maintenance. The Det-Tronics EQP system is an ideal choice for these tough applications. 

It is a configurable, distributed, intelligent safety system providing flame and/or gas detection, along with alarm signaling, notification, extinguishing agent release, and/or deluge operation. All system components are integrated together on a fault tolerant digital communication network. The system is ideally suited for harsh industrial applications that require a hazardous location rated protection system such as heavy oil production. 

The EQP is easily expandable and can be integrated with DCS systems such as DeltaV and Federal Signal PA /GA systems.  Spartan has systems as large as 15 EQP controllers, with hundreds of flame and gas detectors, protecting entire hydrocarbon processing facilities.  The controllers can be made redundant and SIL II versions of both the controllers and detection devices are available.

Detectors such as the X3301 Flame detector, PIRECL combustible gas detector, GT3000 toxic gas detector and LS-2000 open path detector are intelligent and will inform the operator if a detector requires maintenance, reducing or eliminating regular maintenance.

If your plant is older and you have rack mounted fire and gas controllers the EQP is a great solution to update your controllers and detectors. With its analog input modules, the EQP can be scaled from four detectors to hundreds and can be configured to exactly mimic the outputs from the previous controllers. This means there will be no configuration changes to the DCS or plant PLC. An additional option of mapping the output of every gas detector to a DCS using MODBUS, giving operators a better view of any gas leak in the facility is available.
